Review: Fat Head The Movie

Posted January 13, 2011 in Food & Diet
Today I'm recommending a great movie by Tom Naughton called "Fat Head." What starts out simply as a critical refutation of Morgan Spurlock's popular movie, "Supersize Me," develops into one of the best explanations that I've seen of what really causes weight gain and why we have such a problem in America today.

I was one of the people who originally saw "Supersize Me" in the theater and thought "Wow, those evil geniuses at McDonald's are destroying our health!" So for me the analysis of Morgan Spurlock's claims was pretty interesting stuff, but even if you don't care about "Supersize Me" or are time-constrained, you won't want to miss out on the great footage Tom put together from the 52-minute mark on. The 2nd half of this movie should be required viewing for everyone in the western world.

Some of the important points "Fat Head" touches on are:

  • Disproves the lipid hypothesis (the theory that cholesterol causes heart disease and saturated fat is bad)

  • Explains how fat is important for the brain and cells to function properly

  • Demonstrates how saturated fat is good for your arteries and cholesterol

  • Explains how an insulin-resistant body can still starve despite being fat

  • Shows serious flaws with the popular argument about the evils of fast food

  • Examines how the influence of government grants and funding can create bias in reports and studies

This is an incredibly informative movie for anyone who is interested in weight loss or has a friend or family member who is struggling with their weight.

You can watch the movie for free on Hulu or head over to the Fat Head Movie site and support Tom by purchasing the DVD. Enjoy!

This is a great flick! I'd like to add too that regular cardio exercise helps your fat cells remember how to release fat, so all is not lost if you are a "fat storer."

Saw this film last night and it's one of the only films I've ever been bothered to watch more than once.

Great film that effectively and humorously presents the facts without becoming boring or masking the message.
